As small business owners, we're damn good at what we do. There's tons of passion and a relentless drive that a steam train couldn't stop, it's what makes us dive into the world of self-employment. As our businesses grow, we often find that our business skills fail to keep pace.  This is what happened to me. The business outgrew me. Not the passion, not the commitment, and certainly not the ambition to scale, it was the "advanced business skills" that caught me out.


I built an exceptional business, yet despite that success the business failed on its 20th Birthday. I would often focus on the big things and neglect the small things, and sometimes the exact opposite, I would focus on the small things and neglect the important things.
